Local Indian singer’s Afrikaans music makes it to KykNET

Local musician Kyle Sivalingam’s brand new Afrikaans music video, Dans 101, premieres this month on kykNET NOU, channel 146 on DStv.

The music video is as colorful as a Bollywood movie and depicts Kyle trying to woo a pretty girl with his singing skills and fancy footwork.

The chorus tells you how to move and promises to offer tons of fun for the whole family. Kyle wrote Dans 101 together with his manager, Retha Cloete, of Melody Entertainment.

“Whenever I performed the song Oh Carol Javeena Remix with my friend Neen, we would throw in some Bollywood dance moves and it didn’t take long until the dance floor was full of Afrikaans folks doing Bollywood moves,” said Kyle.

“It was beautiful. The dance became so popular that it was the surprise item at another friend’s Afrikaans wedding. This is the reason we incorporated dance moves into the chorus and I hope it gets everyone dancing.”

Kyle was born in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal and since the age of five he’s excelled in dance, drama, modeling and music.

He moved to Johannesburg in 2010 to make his mark in the South African music industry and while singing karaoke one night, he was approached by Cloete who offered to manage his career as an artist. “I was really blown away by his vocal ability and it was by chance that I got to meet him that night at a karaoke bar,” said Cloete.

“I later challenged him to perform an Afrikaans song at a gig. Once he started listening to Afrikaans music, he started to enjoy

it, which was weird for an Indian guy from Durban. The first time he sang an Afrikaans song in public, the audience went nuts!”

After a few professional appearances through Melody Entertainment in November 2011, Kyle decided to record his debut album, Droplets of My Blood.

In August 2012, after his spectacular performance at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre, he was honored with a Legend (ARTES) Award for outstanding contributions to the South African entertainment industry.

Kyle performs in English, Afrikaans and Hindi and continues to wow Afrikaans audiences across the country. He has opened for artists such as Bobby van Jaarsveld and Gerhard Steyn and in 2014, Kyle recorded his first original Afrikaans song, Crazy Verlief, which you can stream and download for free at www.kylemusicsa.com

His cover version of the Stereo Nation hit Oh Carol Javeena Remix has caught the attention of the UK-based original performer, who has requested to feature on Kyle’s version for a worldwide release.
