Beetles, Kombi’s and Kaapsehoop
These cars are, as much as art and food, part and parcel of the DNA of organisers Charl and Andrea Fourie.
October is, traditionally, beer fest month.
It has also, for the village folks – hippies and non-hippies – of Kaapsehoop, become the month in which they celebrate the nostalgy, childhood and young adult memories of the iconic VW Beetle and Kombi vehicles.
These cars are, as much as art and food, part and parcel of the DNA of organisers Charl and Andrea Fourie.
They are the owners of the Bohemian Restaurant in Kaapsehoop.
Beetles were certainly well represented this year and there were also, according to my count, more Kombis.
Newbies to the Kaapsehoop event were the Otto family all the way, at 80km/h with their 1965 Kombi, from Boksburg.
“It was our treat for the kids and grandchildren who came with us,” said Danita Otto. They came for the weekend though!
Dolf Minnaar in his 1972 – 76 (he is not sure) is a regular from Gauteng. And I am not sure – whether, every time I see him – I feel part of his family or he feels part of the Lowveld family. I think that perhaps it is a hippie thing – we are just all family – aren’t we? Anyway Dolf, I am not publishing your photo this time – I think!
The day always rewards participants with some fun prizes and surprises also.
Me – I am wondering. I saw Charl brewing something in large beer mugs which people seemed to enjoy…
So how about – and this is a challenge – Bohemian introduces its own custom/handmade/locally brewed Beetlejuice in 2022?
I mean, it just seems the natural thing to do? Others brew gin and more – why not have an artisan Bohemian VW Beetlejuice?
Enough said – enjoy the pictures…
