Former Proteas cricketer Herschelle Gibbs arrested

Former Proteas cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has been arrested for drunken driving, police confirmed.

Gibbs had been involved in a car accident in Camps Bay in the Western Cape last night, Jacaranda FM reported.

No injuries were reported; however, it was suspected that Gibbs (40) had been speeding when his vehicle collided with a Toyota.

Western Cape police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.

Gibbs would reportedly appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on November 25, 2015.

The former South African opening batsman had previously been arrested for drunk driving in Cape Town.

Gibbs was arrested in 2008 after being pulled over by police and failing a breathalyser.

He was then released on R500 bail.

Prosecutor Carmen Daniels later withdrew the charges.
