Video: Former Richards Bay couple dodges Hurricane Milton bullet

Former Zululanders now residing in Florida narrowly escaped disaster as Hurricane Milton is wreaking havoc in the US.

Prayers were answered when a Richards Bay couple living in Jupiter, on the west coast of Florida, US, woke up at first light today (US time) to find their home and possessions had survived the first onslaught of Hurricane Milton.

Jane and Alan Ferraris, residents of Florida for the past nine years, sent the Zululand Observer a video showing how narrowly they had escaped disaster after securing their home overnight in anticipation of a potential catastrophe.

“We’re fine and, as expected, it passed us by further to the north, close to Daytona.

“We did, however, have some very scary tornadoes that touched down in Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter Farms, both within five miles of us,” said Jane.

“Thank God – a bullet dodged! So we are fine with howling winds and squalls, and we still have electricity and water.”

Meanwhile, Richards Bay locals Rudi and Sharnee Stadler faced the chaos of two hurricanes while travelling to Florida for a wedding. Zululand Observer yesterday reported that they narrowly missed Hurricane Helene and helped their hosts prepare for Hurricane Milton, which raised concerns over flight disruptions.
