eMalahleni hijacking and murder: 3 appear in court

While two of the suspects arrested in connection with the murder and hijacking of a municipality’s communications officer have appeared in court, the other two suspects are expected to appear today.

Three of the five suspects arrested in connection with the hijacking and murder of David Masombuka appeared in court yesterday.

According to a media statement issued by the Provincial SAPS, Guillie Ugamu Ngulela (19), Paulus Nyambiri (36) and Orlando Napasa (31) appeared in the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court where their case was postponed until October 11 for further investigation.

The three suspects were remanded in custody, while the remaining two suspects are expected to appear in court today.

As previously reported by the Middelburg Observer, the five suspects are Mozambican nationals and investigators are working in partnership with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the suspects. Charges relating to contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 could be added.

Masombuka, Nkangala District Municipality’s chief communications manager, was killed in a hijacking on Sunday in eMalahleni, where he was going to attend a municipal IDP meeting in Klarinet.

Masombuka’s family became suspicious after he didn’t reach his destination, and they noticed questionable transactions on his bank account, leading to them alert the authorities.
