Woman killed by car battery thrown off KZN bridge

A woman who was making her way back to Pietermaritzburg after a funeral died when a car battery flew through her windscreen.

Westville, KZN, SAPS detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a woman was killed last night when a car battery was thrown from the bridge just past the on-ramp onto the N3, passing Pavilion Shopping Mall.

According to reports, Madhumathie Bunwarie (62) was on her way back to Pietermaritzburg after attending a funeral in Phoenix.

“The car battery smashed the windscreen and landed on her face, killing her,” says Westville SAPS communications officer Captain Elizabeth Squires.

Motorists have been advised to take caution when driving along the route.
