Dog stabbed 57 times: Pastor and wife in Free State court today

The duo accused of the brutal killing of a bull terrier named Leo are set to again apply for bail in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court.

Self-proclaimed pastor Andries Jeremiah Labuschagné and his wife Reinette, who are accused of killing a purebred bull terrier named Leo, will reappear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court today for a formal bail application. They were previously denied bail on September 18.

Video footage of the incident shows a man stabbing Leo in the neck and mouth. Leo can be seen struggling to escape, crying out due to his severe injuries, before dying after being stabbed 57 times.

It is alleged that during the attack, the man called for a sharper knife, which was handed to him by an unidentified person. After Leo’s death, the attacker reportedly said: “There, it’s done.”

The couple made their first court appearance on September 9 and have been in custody since their arrest on September 6. Both are alleged to be the assailants captured in the videos that spread like wildfire on social media.

Protesters gather outside the court.

At the Labuschagnés’ previous bail hearing, protesters gathered outside the court holding #JusticeForLeo signs.
