Young mother kidnapped and raped: Ex-partner in Limpopo court

Police rescued a 19-year-old woman who was forcefully taken from her home, allegedly by the father of her children.

A 24-year-old man is set to appear in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court today to face charges of kidnapping and rape. He was arrested after a 19-year-old woman was rescued by police on Monday, after being kidnapped, allegedly by her ex-partner.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the victim was at her home in Sephaku village, in the Hlogotlou policing area, on Sunday evening when her ex-boyfriend, who is also the father of her children, called her outside. He reportedly lured her to his vehicle under the pretext of giving her nappies.

As she approached, he allegedly grabbed her, threatened to kill her, and forced her into his car before driving off.

When she did not return, her family alerted the police, as there is an active protection order against the suspect.

“The police located the victim in the early hours of the following morning at the suspect’s residence in Luckau village. The victim also reported that she had been raped. Police opened cases of kidnapping and rape, and the suspect was arrested in the Hlogotlou policing area,” Ledwaba explains and adds that police investigations are ongoing.
