Mom killed, daughters injured in car crash after getting hair done for matric farewell

A mother of three from George died in a car accident while returning from her daughter’s matric farewell preparations, with her two daughters hospitalised in serious condition.

A mother of three who lived in George, Doré du Toit (44), died on 20 September when she and her two daughters were involved in a car accident on the way to Bethlehem from a guest farm called Lavender Hill.

Du Toit’s youngest child is a learner at a primary school in George where she has been living lately.

Du Toit and daughters Dorijke (21) and Evané (18) were getting ready for Evané’s matric farewell when on their way back to Bethlehem from the guest farm, a bakkie towing a trailer allegedly hit their car.

The matric farewell was held on the guest farm. Du Toit and her daughters were involved in the accident after they had their hair done at Lavender Hill and were on their way back to Bethlehem for their make-up and photos. The accident happened around 15:00.

Doné died at the scene and her daughters were both hospitalised in a serious condition.

“Our dearest sister, everything still feels so unreal. Where do you begin,” said Du Toit’s brother, Koos Rossouw, on Facebook.

“Suddenly there’s this big void, your big smile and your beautiful hair. Little did I realise what it meant when we said goodbye with ‘see you when I see you’. Doors, we’re going to miss you a lot. But you left us three beautiful children in which we will see you every day. And for them you lived to the fullest. You were a mother 1 000. Rest in peace and see you when I see you again.”

A media enquiry has been sent to the Bethlehem police for comment.
