KZN mother allegedly fakes child abduction in attempt to have husband arrested

A mother from KZN allegedly faked the abduction of her own child in attempt to get her husband arrested. She claims the father failed to provide her with financial support.

A case of alleged child abduction in Pietermaritzburg has been exposed as a false report, with the mother of the three-year-old apparently admitting that the child was never abducted

On Saturday, reports surfaced that the child had been abducted in the Pietermaritzburg CBD, prompting a swift response from SAPS and local security companies.

A missing person’s report was released, stating that the child’s mother had been approached by two men and a woman believed to be foreign nationals who claimed to be prophets.

They allegedly convinced the mother to leave her child with them while she fetched water, after which both the child and the suspects disappeared.

However, further investigations revealed the truth. According to a police source, the mother admitted that the child had never been to town and was, in fact, with her grandmother at home.

The woman reportedly fabricated the story to spite the child’s father due to his failure to provide financial support.

“The complainant confessed that she made up the kidnapping story, hoping to implicate the father and have him arrested,” the source said.

One of the local security companies that attended the scene and assisted with the investigations confirmed to The Witness that the allegations of abduction were a hoax.

The case has now been handed over to the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, which will take appropriate action against the mother for filing a false report.

The child is unharmed. The FCS unit has taken the child to Thuthuzela Care Centre to ensure her safety.
