A man was taken to hospital after the bakkie he was driving in plunged from a bridge in KZN and landed in a dry riverbed below.

A single cab bakkie crashed through the barriers of the Umzumbe Bridge near Hibberdene on the KZN South Coast during the early hours of this morning.

It appears the driver of the bakkie plunged off the bridge and crashed into one of the bridge’s support columns below.

The Umzumbe riverbed is currently dry.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said paramedics got the call at 05:45 this morning.

He said that once on the scene it was established the driver had moderate injuries. He was transported to hospital by EMRS.
