Woman drugged, abducted and raped in KZN

A woman who went out to supper with a friend woke up naked in a house she had never been to before.

A man was apprehended and charged with rape after he allegedly drugged, abducted and raped a young woman in Newcastle, KZN, over the weekend.

According to Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighter’s Task Team, the team was informed of a young woman – allegedly not in her right state of mind – who approached a member of the public asking for help.

The woman was taken to the Newcastle Police Station for assistance.

She explained that she went out for supper with a friend at a local establishment but couldn’t remember anything after that.

She said that when she woke up, she was at a house she did not recognise and had no clothing on. She left the house to seek help.

Representatives from the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team, Newcastle FCS Unit and Newcastle Crime Office conducted an investigation that revealed the woman had been drugged, abducted and raped.

“We recovered the woman’s clothing at the house she had been taken to and also noted that the house had been ransacked and a window had been broken,” said Ghafoor.

Police found out where the suspect was and requested additional backup due to his violent nature and behaviour.

“The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with kidnapping and rape,” said Ghafoor.
