Tshwane metro police officer dies in fatal accident

A dedicated constable died while returning from an assignment at a marathon in Brooklyn.

The tragic death of a Tshwane metro police officer following an accident on Saturday has left the metro in mourning.

Constable Reason Mnisi died in an accident at the intersection of Justice Mahomed Street and Gerhard Moerdyk Street in Sunnyside, according to a statement issued by the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD).

A dedicated Mnisi served diligently in Region Three, Sector Two (Inner-city), TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.

Mahamba said the accident occurred while Mnisi was returning from an assignment at a marathon event in Brooklyn.

“Mnini was a true warrior and a pillar of professionalism and dedication.

“Known for his unwavering commitment and willingness to exceed the call of duty, Mnisi’s loss is deeply felt across the department and by the community he served with distinction,” Mahamba said.

He said Mnisi was celebrated for his reliability and hard work, always prioritising the needs of the public above all else.

“The department and the city are united in their grief and support for the family as they navigate through this difficult time. Mnisi’s passing is a sobering reminder of the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers daily,” said Mahamba.

He added that details regarding the memorial service and funeral arrangements for Mnisi will be communicated in due course.

“The passing of Mnisi serves as a poignant reminder of the selfless service of law enforcement officers who put their lives at risk every day to ensure the safety and security of their communities. His legacy will live on through the impact he made and the lives he touched.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mnisi’s family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn this profound loss.”
