Security escort shot dead in Pretoria

Despite paramedics implementing immediate life-saving measures, a guard escorting a cigarette delivery vehicle died after being shot in the head.

A routine delivery turned into a tragedy yesterday afternoon in Lotus Gardens, in the west of Pretoria, when a security guard was shot dead while escorting a cigarette delivery vehicle.

The incident left the local community in shock and mourning.

Cert-SA spokesperson Ruan Heyns says the Centurion crew received an urgent distress call about the shooting.

“Responding swiftly, our emergency medical team arrived on the scene to find the brave security guard critically injured and seated in his vehicle.

“Our dedicated personnel initiated immediate life-saving measures to stabilise him.”

Heyns says a medical helicopter was promptly summoned to airlift the patient to a level one trauma facility for advanced care.

“Tragically, despite the best efforts of our emergency medical professionals, the security guard succumbed to his injuries before the helicopter could reach the scene.”

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.

“The support and dedication shown by the various teams involved are a testament to their unwavering commitment to public safety,” he says.
