5-year-old, 2 women rescued from captivity: Man in KZN court

The women revealed they were kidnapped from Wyebank and that their captors had attempted to access a recent Road Accident Fund payout.

A suspect is due to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today, on kidnapping charges after a five-year-old child and two victims, one paralysed, were found captive in a Wyebank shack on Friday.

Pinetown Police Station communications officer Jennifer Naidu explains that officers acted on a tip-off about a person being held captive. They arrived to find a male suspect inside a shack room who initially resisted but was later detained. The room contained two women and the child.

The suspect was reportedly found with a firearm and eight live rounds. In the main house, another suspect and two more firearms were discovered; the second suspect was released due to insufficient evidence.

Medical assistance was provided to one victim, paralysed from a previous accident.

The women revealed they were kidnapped from Wyebank and held at gunpoint while the suspects attempted to access their funds, including a recent Road Accident Fund payout. The victims have been safely reunited with their families.
