No arrests yet after hijack and kidnap of taxi driver in Brakpan

A case was opened at the Tsakane Police Station after three armed men, initially believed to be passengers, stopped the man.

A taxi driver was hijacked and kidnapped on Geluksdal Road while driving his white Toyota Quantum on Sunday.

According to Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the Ekurhuleni SAPS district communications officer, the driver claimed that three armed men, who he initially believed to be passengers, stopped him. After picking them up, one of the men allegedly produced a firearm, instructing the driver to stop and move to the back of the vehicle.

Sekgobela added that the men drove around with the driver for a few minutes before dropping him off in the Withok area of Brakpan.

The suspects reportedly drove off with the vehicle, and the victim has since opened a case with the Tsakane SAPS.

No arrests have been made.
