2 women set alight in Florida: Man back in court

Zakkiyah Rayman died days after being doused with petrol, while Marishka Davids passed away at the end of the month of the brutal incident.

Mark Harvey, who was arrested for the murder of Marishka Davids and Zakkiyah Rayman, is set to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court today, where an indictment is expected to be issued.

Harvey (44) is charged with two counts of murder and arson after allegedly dousing Davids (30) and Rayman (38) with petrol and setting them alight in Florida in the early hours of February 11. Rayman died seven days after the attack, and Davids succumbed to her injuries at the end of February.

The heartbreaking loss of Davids and Rayman still resonates deeply with their families, who continue to navigate the painful aftermath of the brutal murders.

During his previous appearance last Wednesday, prosecutor Arnold Limekhaya mentioned the docket was sent to the director of Public Prosecutions for further investigations. The families of the victims, seeking justice, feel slightly hopeful following the prosecutor’s statement that the case will be transferred to the high court.

“I feel a sense of relief that this matter will be taken to the high court, where I know justice will be served for our daughters,” said Mandy Davids, Marishka’s mother.

As the families brace themselves for the trial ahead, they remain united in their quest for justice. “We will remain strong for our children and stand together as a family,” Davids added.
