Three people from the the minibus taxi industry in Khutsong, two of them members of the same taxi association were murdered over the past two weeks. Two were killed at almost the same time of the day by gunmen travelling in Toyota cars.

Khutsong SAPS station commander Colonel Ockie Brits says the most recent killing was last Sunday, when a member of the Carletonville United Taxi Association (CUTA) was murdered.

Gunmen traveling in a silver Toyota Corolla followed the taxi owner and opened fire on his taxi near the Ramathibe Farms turn-off on the way to Khutsong Ext 3. The incident happened at around 18:30.

On July 30 a 62-year-old taxi owner of the Carletonville Local and Long Distance Taxi Association (CALLTA) was walking near Thabiso Tuck Shop when men shot and killed him.

It has since come to light that there was another attempt on the man’s life a week before his death which he did not report to the police.

A week before the most recent murder, at more or less the same time of day on July 28, a CUTA taxi owner was shot and killed while driving in Ext 3. The incident took place at the curve on the main tarred road on the way to the clinic.

Gunmen used a green Toyota Starlet to commit the offence and flee the scene.
