7 schoolchildren struck by vehicle in Mpumalanga

Exactly a week after six Middelburg teenagers tragically lost their lives in a school bus accident, another seven children fell victim to an accident near KaBokweni.

A pedestrian-vehicle accident in which seven school learners were hit late yesterday afternoon shook the community.

It is understood the children were walking home from school between KaBokweni and Khambula, on KaBokweni Road in Mpumalanga, when the incident happened.

This on the same day as the memorial service was held to honour six teenagers who tragically passed away last Wednesday in the Middelburg area when their school bus and a moving Transnet train collided.

Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey says the volatility at the scene necessitated swift action to stabilise and treat the patients before they were transported to the KaBokweni Provincial Hospital and Mediclinic Nelspruit for further care.

Injuries ranged from minor to moderate, but none were serious.

Emergency services handed the scene over to the police for further investigation.
