Mossel Bay man in court for alleged property development fraud

It is alleged that several victims, mostly pensioners, lost millions for property development that never materialised.

A Mossel Bay man is expected to make his first court appearance in the local magistrate’s court today on several fraud-related charges.

The suspect (58) was yesterday arrested by Da Gamaskop police and spent the night in the police holding cells.

Allegations against the suspect include that he claimed to be a building contractor and developer in Mossel Bay.

One of his alleged victims, a 72-year-old pensioner from George, told Mossel Bay Advertiser that he paid R500 000 in 2021 as a deposit for a property in a proposed development in Aalwyndal.

The development never materialised and the victim says he never got his money back.

It is alleged that scores of victims, mostly pensioners, lost millions of rands.

The name of the suspect can only be made known after his first court appearance.
