Rough sea and strong wind warnings for Western Cape

Small vessels have been advised to be aware of large unpredictable waves along the Western Cape coast.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 weather warning for damaging waves in the Western Cape from midnight last night until tonight 23:00.

This could lead to difficulty in navigation at sea.

The affected area is between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay this morning, but persisting between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay into tomorrow morning.

South-westerly swells with wave heights of 4m to 5.5m are expected today.

Westerly to north-westerly winds (40 to 60km/h) are also expected between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay today. The combined wind and wave conditions will result in rough and choppy seas.

Small vessels are advised to seek shelter in harbours, bays or inlets, SAWS said.
