Cullinan farm murder: Suspect arrested

A man who has been arrested for allegedly murdering a farmer and beating up his wife is due to appear in court soon.

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of Dirk Kritzinger (81) and the severe beating of his wife Sarie in a farm attack in Cullinan.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, a district task team, comprising detectives and members of Cullinan SAPS, was activated on Saturday.

“The team initiated efforts to track and apprehend the suspect following the farm attack.”

Police found Kritzinger with severe head injuries and lying in a pool of blood.

His wife Sarie was severely injured and needed medical attention.

Van Dyk says a witness stated that he quickly drove to the man’s residence after he received a call from the deceased’s daughter notifying him that her parents were not answering their phones.

She suspected something might have occurred because it was unusual for them not to answer calls.

“On his arrival, he found the severely injured woman and the deceased in the house.”

He says the motive for the attack is unknown. It is also not known if anything was stolen.

Van Dyk says by investigating leads and information received from the community, suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder and assault were identified.

“The team was led to the residence of one suspect, where he was located and arrested.”

Van Dyk says a search of the suspect’s house uncovered property and a firearm belonging to the victims.

The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect will soon appear before the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court to face charges of murder, house robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of suspected stolen property.
