Teen found, 5 arrested after alleged Emalahleni abduction

Four suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a teenager were arrested in Gauteng, and one was arrested in Ga-Nala.

A teenaged girl who was allegedly abducted in Ga-Nala in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, earlier this week is safe.

Two women and three men aged between 23 and 41 were arrested for the alleged kidnapping.

According to the acting provincial commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, the suspects were apprehended yesterday.

“It is alleged that soon after the girl was kidnapped, the suspects made calls to the victim’s mother, threatening to kill the girl if police were alerted.

“Two off-duty police constables were called upon by the acting station commander of Kriel, Nonhlanhla Mkhwanazi, to assist in tracing the suspects,” Mkhwanazi says.

He explains that police traced, followed and cornered four of the suspects in Vereeniging, where the 14-year-old girl was found unharmed.

Three men and a women were arrested in Gauteng and one woman was arrested in Ga-Nala.

The suspects are facing charges relating to kidnapping and extortion and are expected to appear in court today.

Mkhwanazi says kidnapping cases are a great concern to the police.

“We are doing our best to mitigate this challenge.”
