Cullinan farm attack: Elderly man killed, wife severely beaten

Police are appealing for information after Dirk Kritzinger (81) was killed and his wife, Sarie, severely injured on Saturday.

Police say an elderly man was killed and his wife severely beaten in a farm attack in Cullinan this weekend.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the brutal attack happened on Saturday.

“The South African Police Service in Cullinan reacted after they were informed of a farm attack in their policing area on Saturday.”

Police found 81-year-old Dirk Kritzinger with severe head injuries and lying in a pool of blood.

His wife, Sarie, was severely injured and is receiving medical attention.

Van Dyk says a witness states that he quickly drove to the man’s residence after he received a call from the deceased’s daughter notifying him that her parents were not answering their phones.

She suspected something might have occurred because it is unusual for them not to answer their phones.

“On his arrival, he found the severely injured woman and the deceased in the house.”

Van Dyk adds that it is unknown what the motive for the attack is, and if any property was stolen.

“A case of murder and house robbery has been opened for investigation and all leads are being investigated.”

The police is appealing to the community to come forward with any information and to contact Cullinan SAPS to bring the culprits to justice.
