Wanted suspect killed in shoot-out in Imbali

A task team comprising several SAPS units as well as private security traced a man that was on the run for at least four months.

A suspect who was wanted for the murder of a policeman, as well as other crimes, was killed during a shoot-out with SAPS and security members yesterday.

Khanyisani Radebe of Aphiwe Protection Services says the suspect had been on the run for at least four months and a warrant of arrest was issued.

“Today at 12:00 information was received on his whereabouts, and the specialised task team, which includes Aphiwe Protection Services, [the] District Task Team, DPCI Pietermaritzburg, PMB K9, PMB TRT, and [the] Plessislaer Anti-Crime Task Team, mobilised and tracked the suspect at Imbali Unit BB.

“When he was approached, and once he saw that it was SAPS members, he started shooting. Members returned fire, and the suspect was fatally wounded,” explains Radebe.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the suspect was wanted for the murder of a SAPS member, which occurred in April.
