Man (54) shot, killed at Edenvale sports bar after dispute

A dispute at a sports bar that turned chaotic is said to have led to the death of a 54-year-old man after several shots were fired.

The police in Edenvale on the East Rand are investigating a murder case following a fatal shooting at a Dowerglen sports bar yesterday evening.

Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, communication officer for the Edenvale Police Station, confirmed that the 54-year-old victim was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The events leading to the shooting are currently under investigation, and the deceased’s identity has not been disclosed.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident began with a dispute at the sports bar.

“When it became chaotic, the deceased pulled out a firearm and fired four or five shots randomly,” said Mashile.

In response, the suspect also drew a gun and shot the victim twice.

The victim fell to the floor and lost consciousness.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but the victim died as a result of his injuries.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Edenvale Police Station, where one firearm was confiscated.

Colonel Noxolo Kweza, spokesperson for the Gauteng SAPS, said the suspect is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow in Germiston.
