Brutal attack on elderly couple near Brits: 3 to apply for bail

During the farm attack a 73-year-old man was hit so hard over the head with a shotgun, that its butt broke.

Three men who were arrested after the brutal attack on an elderly couple during a farm attack near Brits, are expected to apply for bail today.

According to local police spokesperson Constable Ben Moabi, three Zimbabwean men: Noel Emanuel(35), Robert Emanuel(28) and Penasai Emanuel(40) were arrested at the Multiplant squatter camp in De Kroon, last Thursday.

The suspects are linked to the brutal attack on an elderly couple on a game farm in Beestekraal on July 7. A group of armed robbers broke down a security door and attacked the couple in the farm house.

They hit the 73-year-old man so hard over the head that the shotgun’s butt broke. They tied up the couple and fled with two firearms, bank cards, a TV set and other belongings.

The Afrique Du Sud K9 and Aequitas security companies received information about the suspects last week and informed the police. Assen police detectives, members of the Brits Trio Task Team, Aequitas, Afrique du Sud K9, as well as the Tactical Support Unit of the Brits Community Policing Forum traced and arrested the three suspects.

They appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of aggravating robbery, kidnapping, house robbery and contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. The case was then postponed to today for a formal bail application.
