Polokwane teacher arrested in possession of drugs worth R20 000

Police recently arrested a teacher in the Polokwane CBD on charges of drug dealing and possession. Drugs worth thousands and an unlicensed firearm were seized from him.

Police in Limpopo arrested a teacher in Polokwane on Tuesday on drug-related charges.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says that on Tuesday, while police conducted patrol duties in the Capricorn District, a 33-year-old male teacher was arrested for dealing and possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

On Tuesday afternoon, police received information about a silver hatchback suspected of distributing and selling drugs in Polokwane CBD.

Police arrived in the area and began searching for the vehicle. They located and tactically cornered it on General Piet Joubert and Rissik Street.

“The vehicle and its single occupant were searched, where police discovered money, drugs with an estimated street value of R20 000, and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition concealed inside it,” says Ledwaba.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and his car was impounded.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the SAPS members for their continued efforts to combat drug-related crime in the province.

“Such educators who are on drugs cannot be entrusted with the education of our children; we call for the department to take harsh measures and remove such from the system and its payroll.”

The teacher is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court, facing a charge of dealing and possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

Police investigations are continuing.
