Boy (7) found murdered in Pietermaritzburg

A boy was found stabbed and strangled, with his hands and feet tied with a jacket.

Pietermaritzburg police are looking for Sifiso Sokude who may be able to assist in solving the disappearance and murder of a seven-year-old boy.

Sfundo Mkhize went missing on Thursday afternoon after being sent to a spaza shop in the Ezinketheni informal settlement, near Swapo, along Old Greytown Road.

Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson Sifiso Gwala says Mkhize was sent to the shop by Sokude, his father’s friend.

“When the family realised it was getting late and the boy was nowhere to be found, they contacted the police and reported him missing.”

Gwala says police went to the informal settlement, where the father explained that the boy was last seen in the presence of Sokude. The father then took police to Sokude’s shack.

The shack was locked and Sokude was not there.

“Peeping through a hole, the police spotted the boy lying face-down with both his hands and legs tied with a jacket. He had a stab wound on the left shoulder and he was also strangled,” says Gwala.
