Renault Twingo E-Tech prototype revealed as retro-modern EV

Billed as the next chapter in the French automaker’s compact-car story, Renault has revealed the Twingo E-Tech prototype.

Scheduled to make its public debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, which takes place from October 14 to 20, Renault has whipped the wraps off the Twingo E-Tech prototype, a retro-modern, compact hatch sporting an all-electric powertrain.

According to the French firm, the prototype model ‘rekindles the original flame’ of its first-generation forebear; adding that the prototype model ‘is original, clever, right for today and as unexpected as the original’.

Remaining true to the compact-hatch provisos set out by its maker for its predecessors, the Twingo E-Tech sports a small footprint, which, the automaker says, makes it an ‘agile’ city car, while the inclusion of four doors makes it more practical than before. In addition, Renault has equipped the retro-modern Twingo show car with a fixed glass roof, allowing light to fill the small hatchback’s ‘generously sized’ interior.

Taking inspiration from the first iteration, the company says the series of retro design details incorporated into the Twingo E-Tech prototype’s styling ‘heighten’ its character. Of course, though harking back to the original’s design language, the emissions-free prototype incorporates an array of contemporary details. This includes the head- and taillamps; round door handles, replete with illumination; and trio of small openings sited on the bonnet, which pay tribute to the original car’s legacy.
