Retro-inspired Renault 4 E-Tech teased ahead of reveal

Scheduled to make its official debut during the Paris Motor Show this month, Renault has teased the upcoming Renault 4 E-Tech.

When the original Renault 4 was introduced in 1961, it marked a significant milestone for the French firm – it was the first Renault family car with a front-mounted engine. However, the reimagined-for-the-modern-age Renault 4, scheduled to make its global debut at the 2025 Paris Motor Show on October 14, will be powered by batteries alone. Indeed, soon, Renault will whip the wraps off its latest electric vehicle. Here’s what we know so far…

According to the Boulogne-Billancourt-based brand, although employing an electric powertrain, the Renault 4 E-Tech ‘is as versatile as its predecessor’.

Based on the company’s AmpR Small platform, the R4 E-Tech measures 4 140mm in length, some 220mm less than the EV with which it shares its underpinnings, the new, all-electric Renault 5.

From a design point of view, the R4 E-Tech will feature a oblong front grille, replete with an illuminated surround. The closed-off grille features a backlit ‘Renault’ emblem (a first for a Renault product) and incorporates round LED headlamps. ‘Round back, the R4 E-Tech’s three-part, ‘pill-shaped’ taillamps hark back to the items found on the original car. Trapezoidal quarter windows, sited above the rear wheels, are also present, as is a roof-mounted rear spoiler. A neat addition to the package, the modernised version features a retractable fabric roof.
