The Cape Heritage White Wine Session 1 features the noble variety, Chenin Blanc, known for its versatility and fruit intensity. Producing some of the most profound and sought-after white wines on Strauss & Co, Chris and Suzaan Alheit have been especially accomplished with Chenin Blanc. There has been a shift in the Alheits’ focus towards single origin wines which captures the vineyard expression in the bottle. We offer rare vertical vintage lots of Magentic North, La Colline and Nautical Dawn. Along with early vintages of Cartology and extremely rare Radio Lazarus are also under the hammer.

The Cape Heritage Red Wine Session 2 features 25 lots from The Tabernacle – the famous underground cellar in Stellenbosch that houses some of South Africa’s most spectacular vinous historical treasures. All the lots from The Tabernacle have been recorked; each bottle was opened for inspection, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, and Strauss & Co fine wine specialist Higgo Jacobs along with Amorim tasted and assessed each wine. The wines were topped up with wine from the same vintage, recorked and resealed, all under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks. Highlight lot includes Lanzerac Pinotage 1964, SFW Stellenbosch Cinsaut 1974, Zonnebloem 1964 and Chateau Libertas 1964 in 375ml bottles.

The Pinotage list features the leading names of Kanonkop, Beeslaar & Kaapzicht, having become consistent flag bearers for this proudly South African variety.

Session 3 features an eclectic selection of interesting and super rare vintages from the Loire Valley. Rich in ancient limestone and silex soils, the Loire valley is known for their passionate, historic family producers, many of them farming organically, and forming the spiritual cradle of noble varieties including the likes of Sauvignon blanc in the famous appellations of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume in the continental east, through the Chenins from Vouvray, and Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Saumur further downstream to the west.

Brimming with variety and value, the catalogue includes highly collectable lots from acclaimed classics like Domaine  Huet,  Alphonse Mellot, Henri Bourgeois and Thierry Germain.

The August Online auction closes on Monday, 12 August from 6pm at one-minute intervals. For more information visit Strauss and Co’s website.
