Eastern Cape woman becomes a published mathematician

Mathematician Aviwe Sofoyiya from the Eastern Cape recently published her first book, a Grade 12 mathematics manual.

Aviwe Sofoyiya, an inspiring mathematician and math author from the Eastern Cape, has published her first Grade 12 mathematics manual. The recent Cape Peninsula University of Technology graduate announced on Facebook that her Grade 12 math books are now available for purchase, marking an exciting development in her career.

Reflecting on her journey, Sofoyiya shared: “This was probably the most challenging moment of my life so far. Having to resign from work under toxic conditions, running my small business, and writing a book. I had countless breakdowns.”

She expressed deep gratitude to her publisher, Marcia Ramodike at Evelyn50 Publishing, for encouraging her to step beyond her comfort zone. “I finished some chapters while in tears!” she added.

Aviwe also thanked her family, friends, and boyfriend for their unwavering support and belief in her. In addition to her academic achievements, she runs a small organic skincare and hair product business.
