Introducing the plug-in electric hybrid Range Rover Velar

Discover the new Velar P400e plug-in hybrid, boasting impressive performance and a substantial electric-only range. Explore its cutting-edge features and advanced powertrains.

The Range Rover Velar has taken a leap into the future with the introduction of the fuel-efficient P400e plug-in electric hybrid model.

With a remarkable 21% improvement in range, offering up to 64km of electric-only driving, the Velar is now more eco-friendly and powerful than ever before. This electrifying option joins a line-up of smooth Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, catering to a wide range of preferences.

Range Rover Velar P400e Electric Hybrid

The Velar is now available with an advanced P400e plug-in electric hybrid powertrain, combining a 105kW electric motor with an Ingenium petrol engine. This dynamic duo delivers an effortless and whisper-quiet performance.

This hybrid system strikes a perfect balance between electric-only driving and petrol-powered performance, making it ideal for short urban trips and long journeys alike. With an expected real-world electric range of up to 51km, the Velar P400e enables daily driving with zero tailpipe emissions. For extended journeys, it offers a combined real-world range of 684km, blending petrol and electric power seamlessly.

Enhanced by a larger 19.2kWh battery, 12% larger than before, the Velar P400e now offers an increased electric-only range of up to 64km. Despite the larger battery pack, the Velar’s dimensions remain unchanged, ensuring uncompromised interior space.

This hybrid powerhouse combines a 221kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 105kW electric motor, delivering a combined 297kW and 640Nm of torque. The Velar electric hybrid can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 209km/h. It’s capable of electric-only speeds of up to 140km/h.

Drivers can choose from three driving modes to suit their preferences:

Charging the Range Rover Velar P400e is convenient and flexible. It can rapidly charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes using a 50kW charger away from home. At home, a 0-100% charge can be achieved in 2.5 hours with a 7kW AC charger. For added convenience, three-pin charging is also supported when needed. The Remote App allows owners to control and monitor home charging via their smartphone, enabling smart charging scheduling to optimise energy-efficient off-peak tariffs.

In-line Ingenium petrol and diesel engines

The Range Rover Velar offers a range of advanced Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, including the latest-generation smooth and fuel-efficient Ingenium petrol straight-six engines with 48-volt Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology. This tech harnesses energy typically lost during deceleration, storing it in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery for improved efficiency and power delivery.

In South Africa, the 3.0-litre straight-six Ingenium petrol engine is available in P340 MHEV form, delivering 250kW and 480Nm of torque, with acceleration from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds. This lightweight straight-six engine incorporates innovations such as an electric supercharger and continuous variable valve lift for enhanced responsiveness and efficiency.

The 3.0-litre straight-six D300 diesel engine produces 221kW and 650Nm of torque, achieving a 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds. Pioneering technologies, including a high-pressure fuel injection system and state of the art exhaust gas recirculation, optimise fuel efficiency and refinement, making it a powerful and efficient choice.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder D200 Ingenium diesel engine provides 146kW and 430Nm of torque for a balanced combination of performance and efficiency.

Capability and Composure

The Velar boasts advanced technologies for both on-road composure and all-terrain performance. An intelligent torque on-demand all-wheel drive system optimises torque distribution for various driving conditions, from dynamic road driving to slippery surfaces.
