With a destructive barrage of power punches in the waning minutes of a difficult fight, the Scottish African and lead singer of Prime Circle, Ross Learmonth was crowned champion of BOXOP 2.
The second edition of the boxing event took place at Time Square in Pretoria on Saturday.
The rock royalty faced South African comedian, Kevin Fraser in the boxing ring and after six rounds that consisted of 90 seconds each, Learmonth, was named the winner based on points.
It was a neck-and-neck fight with judge scores of 54-59, 59-59, 56-60.
“What a night, what a fight,” said Learmonth on his social media pages.
“Kevin you are an absolute machine and what a fight you put up.
“Biggest thank you to my coaches for being with me every single step of this journey and leading me to this victory.
“I am extremely humbled to be the champion of this celebrity boxing event and have the most amount of respect for anyone who does this sport as a career,” he said.

According to a post on his social media, Fraser said that it has been an experience and a challenge that he will remember for the rest of his life.
“Diving into the unknown has been a grueling task of 12 weeks in hard training, dedication, balancing the demands of this sport and my comedy career.
“Well done to Ross for being the champ and enduring this journey to this point.
“I for one, have become a better performer because of this. I have learnt more about dealing with things in life and the circumstances we face because of the demands of a sport such as boxing,” Fraser said.
“Thank you to each and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey.
“Lastly, to you, my fans for your unmatched support and positivity to side with your comedian all the way through.”
Jaco Geyer of Blue Banana events wanted to thank both celebrities for their performance, fighting spirit and sportsmanship.
“You inspired people across South Africa and the globe.
“We also wish to thank all the people who have attended Sportland BOXOP in person, and who have watched the live stream event from home. The value of your support is beyond measure,” he said.
The date and the two celebs to face off in a quest for boxing glory in the third edition, will be announced soon.
Well-known South African musicians, Karen Zoid, Jack Parow, Early B, Tidal Waves and YoungstaCPT entertained the crowd during the build up to the main fight.

– Fight 1: Dino Nizetich vs Johan Smit. Nizetich wins on points.
– Fight 2: Jacques Wijtman vs Jacques Rossouw. Wijtman wins on points.
– Fight 3: Justin Hughes vs Dalitso Mukumbe. Mukumbe is the winner.
– Fight 4: Johnny Anthony vs Bevan Beckmann. Ends in a draw.
– Fight 5: Ntando Moyo vs Tiaan Victor. Ends in a draw.
