Banting market a hit at new east location

We haven’t been to the doctor, even for flu, in six years… we are perfectly healthy.”

The bimonthly Banting market proved to be a success, once again, at its new location at the Brooklyn Mall on Saturday.

“It’s getting better, we’ve counted hundreds of feet,” organiser Karin Loots said.

She, however, noted that while attendance was “picking up” since the return of the market, the numbers had taken a slight dip.

“I would like to get back to counting around 2 000 in attendance,” Loots said.

The market was started around six years ago, following her decision to opt for a more “healthy” Banting lifestyle.

“I started the market because I wanted to help people live healthier lifestyles,” she said, adding that all the food that was available from the vendors was what she ate herself.

Loots further said both she and her husband, who had lost around 22kg since they started with their new lifestyle, were reaping the benefits of the change.

“We haven’t been to the doctor, even for flu, in six years… we are perfectly healthy,” she said.

The market is open every first and third Saturday of the month from 09:00 onwards.
