North gospel artist inspires people through music

Daniel Semenya released his latest single ‘Jehovah Overdo’ in March.

A Soshanguve gospel artist has become a local force to be reckoned with.

Father of one and Moletjie, Limpopo, villager Daniel Semenya (30) has one album under his belt and currently working on his second.

Semenya said he chose gospel because he wants to “preach the word of God and encourage people going through hardship to never give up”.

“My passion is reaching out to people and ensuring them that pain does not last forever,” said the Soshanguve extension 6 resident.

As a songwriter, he draws his inspiration from everyday life.

Semenya says he also loves lending a helping hand where he can through charity work.

“I also want to give bursaries to deserving students who are sitting at home because of financial difficulties,” he said.

His says his wish is to win as many souls as possible to the kingdom of God and looks up to veteran gospel singer Benjamin Dube “for his quality of work and consistency”.

“Dube has been in the music industry for years, but he has never stopped producing quality music. He is not jealous and gives upcoming artists a platform to showcase their talents and does not try to outshine them,” Semenya said.

Semenya released his latest single ‘Jehovah Overdo’ in March.

“The inspiration behind this song is to let people know that God can do anything we ask Him to; He can bless, heal, and deliver us, and He does that for His glory, not ours. If God, for example, blesses you with a car or a house, it’s for you to praise him, not to take the glory,” he said.

The single is available on digital platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon and Deezer.

Semenya has shared the stage with well-known gospel artists such as Solly Mahlangu, Ndivhuwo Matumba, Pastor Philly and Tebs David.
