Forum for musicians in Tshwane

The forum will be officially opened at the Rendezvous theatre at the State theatre in Pretoria on 19 May.

Musicians from around Tshwane will soon have an umbrella body with the establishment of a forum for musicians.

The official opening of the forum, known as Artists Forum Commission (Afco), will take place at the Rendezvous theatre at the State theatre in Pretoria on 19 May.

Artist Les-ego said the forum hoped to empower musicians from Tshwane so they could promote their own music.

“Our local musicians were forced by producers to sign contracts without any knowledge of the music industry, and it ended in embarrassment and disappointment for many,” said Les-ego.

Various artists, including Linda Kekana and Les-ego, will entertain the attendees with a performance at the launch.

Les-ego said the main purpose of the forum was to bring local musicians together and to promote local artists.

She discouraged local artists from travelling to Johannesburg for music productions, only to be “robbed”.

“People must come to us and we will help them record their albums and lead them to the best recording company or producer.”

She said that more than 50 members have already registered with the forum.

“The forum is supported by State theatre as well as the department of arts and culture to establish the forum, in order to get compensation from the department or other institutions, and from overseas.”

An executive committee of the forum has already been elected and will be introduced during the launch.

Interested musicians can phone Les-ego on 079-848-2933.
