Wollies hosts volunteer day after busy festive period

Wollies Animal Shelter hosted a volunteer day for orphaned animals on Saturday morning.

Wollies animal shelter hosted a volunteer day on Saturday with animal lovers by taking the dogs for a special walk in the park.

Herman Le Roux, organiser of the volunteer day, described the event as an introduction to what Wollies stands for and how anyone could get involved.

“We strive to get as many people involved with Wollies as possible. Today is purely to make people aware of what we’re dealing with here. Before New Year ’s Day we had 280 stray and orphaned dogs in our kennels. After New Year’s Day the numbers jumped to over 400 dogs without homes”, said Le Roux.

Couples, friends and families rocked up to Wollies, ready to learn and lend a helping hand in the fight against abandoned animals.

After taking a quick trip through the kennels and giving the animals some much deserved attention, some people took up a leash to walk the dogs for a while.

“There is nothing these dogs enjoy more than some human interaction and a biscuit treat or two,” concluded Le Roux.
