Jukskei lovers are invited to participate in the Gauteng North Union’s biggest annual fundraiser event on 11 January hosted by the Voortrekker Jukskei Club. The Bushy Swart fundraiser promises to be a day full of fun and entertainment and funds collected on this day will be used to continually grow the sport.
The sport was chosen by the government as one of the sports to be included in the Indigenous Games Project. “Since then, the game has started to gain popularity among young people of all cultures. There is usually a team of four players, one of whom is the captain, but it can also be played in pairs or singles,” said Johan Britz from the Voortrekker Jukskei Club.
He added that Jukskei was played at schools, clubs and on a provincial level. It is also played in various countries such as Namibia and America. The three countries are affiliated to the International Jukskei Federation (IJF).
The event will be hosted at the Jukskei grounds on the corner of 18th Avenue and Swemmer Street from 08:00 to 18:00.
