Dog lovers had a fun, activity-filled morning at the family fun day hosted by the Pretoria Dog Rescue at the Pretoria High School Old Boys Club on Sunday.
Co-organisers Reinette le Roux and Ina Schutte said this first-ever event was a success.
“For a first time event it went well, we didn’t know what to expect,” Le Roux said.
Schutte said the fun day was aimed at raising funds for the more than 50 dogs at the dog rescue.
“It was mostly to raise funds for the kennel fees and the vet bills along with food for the dogs,” she said.
The organisers said they would like to host another fun day.
Schutte added the competitions were also enjoyed.
“The people enjoyed it,” she said.
A highlight, she said, was the “lookalike” competition, in which owners looked like their dogs.
The winner was an elderly man battling throat cancer.
Le Roux added that the rescue organisation needed help from the public to take care of their dogs.
