Watershed make rain fall at Die Blou Hond

Watershed produced a memorable show at Die Blou Hond on Thursday night.

South African leading acoustic band Watershed made it rain at the Die Blou Hond on Thursday night.

The band, who returned last year with a brand new album Watch the rain, produced a memorable show playing its new and older hits.

With five albums and numerous awards, including two SA music awards, Watershed is no doubt one of the biggest bands in the country.

The show started at 19:00, with Philip Moolman entertaining the audience. Afrikaans singer Henrico Coetzee also performed a few ballads before making way for the legendary band, fresh from their international tour with Swedish pop duo Roxette.

At 20:00 Watershed lead singer Craig Hinds joined his band mates Howie Combrink and Gideon Botes on stage to warm applause.

And no sooner had the band started playing the title track from its new album, than the rain started pouring down.

By then, the audience was all into gear and tapping their feet.

“Is it raining outside or is it just the noise coming from the air-con?” Hinds jokingly asked.

The band’s second song, Close your eyes comes from the band’s SAMA winning album Mosaic, and as Hinds sang the opening line, “I belong a hundred miles from anyone”, the crowd joined in.

The next three songs were all all love songs to commemorate St Valentine’s Day, Tell her, Nothing about you is the same and Turn all your pages.

Introducing Letters, Hinds said: “This song is from our third album that was recorded back in 2005 or 2006. It’s a very special song and one of our best, it’s amazing how a song can keep you going for such a long time.”

The biggest song of the night was no doubt Indigo girl, which is arguably the band’s most successful song to date. As soon as the famous piano intro started, lovers stared into each other’s eyes.

Watershed brought down the roof, and the curtain on the show, with a rendition of Adele’s Someone like you.

Hinds said: “It was such a blessing to play at Die Blou Hond for the first time. It’s always nice to do these kind of shows because we love acoustic session.”
