Slapstick comedian Leon Schuster retires

Leon Schuster, South Africa's main funny man, has announced his retirement after his 18th and final movie.

The king of slapstick comedy Leon Schuster is to retire from the movie industry.

He announced this week that he would do so after his 18th and final movie, Schuks….Pay Back the Money, due to be released at the end of this month.

Schuster said he would not be taking on another project like this.

“I don’t think I’ll tackle another candid camera movie at my age; it’s just too dangerous,” Schuster explained to Times Live.

“It took time for the people I caught out in 1997 to get cross; they didn’t get cross immediately because the situation in the country was different then.”

Like all of Schuster’s films, this one shows just how quickly South Africans get aggravated, especially when it comes to their cars or alcohol.

“There’s just too much happening or not happening. There’s no hope – people are used to violence in this country. People just don’t have tolerance anymore, that’s why I make movies for South Africans – to brighten their lives up a little bit,” Schuster said.

Schuks…Pay Back the Money is estimated to do very well according to experts in the field, especially if you consider the magnitude of his previous films.
