Meet the surprise judge for band fest

It is no surprise that the Parkrand Primary “Listen to our hit!!” Band-fest 2014 is high in demand from bands who want to make it into the final.

However, a surprise judge will also be involved in the judging, on September 6, at Parkrand Primary School.

The competition is based on a band having that first hit that will catapult them to stardom. The song that will secure them a place in the final and, hopefully, win them a chance to record it.

This will enable them to take the hit to radio and promote it in cyberspace.

While endlessly working on the judges list and making space for bands that are unique, local music star Nathan Ro, from Lonehill Estate, has signed on to be one of the judges.

Nathan started his singing career on the reality TV show Project Fame, where he came second on the continent of Africa.

He then moved on to acting, playing the role of Tim Wilson on the popular daily drama Isidingo.

Lonehill Estate released their debut album in 2005, which saw the band represent South Africa at the Global Battle of The Bands, in the UK.

Lonehill Estate’s song, Forty, was the title track of the Barry Hilton film, Finding Lenny – the band continued to see success when they were invited to play at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, in Switzerland, and were then showcased in Los Angeles, a few months later.

Nathan is also a member of Swing City — alongside Graeme Watkins (Graeme Watkins Project) and R&B singer Loyiso Bala — which performs classic swing music around the country.

Get ready for a battle of bands where everyone is just yearning to be number one.
