Bushbuckridge community to enjoy quality healthcare services

The newly renovated Gottenburg Clinic serves several villages, such as Thlavekisa, Hlalakahle, Serville A and Serville C.

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, attended the official handover of the Gottenburg Clinic on Thursday November 16 following its renovations by the Africa Foundation. The renovations started on October 12, 2022, and was completed in August this year.

The Gottenburg Clinic is in Ward 34 and falls under the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. This health facility operates eight hours a day, five days per week, and was officially opened in 2000. The facility serves several villages such as Thlavekisa, Hlalakahle, Serville A and Serville C. The monthly average headcount is 1 600.

Manzini said she appreciated the generous gesture by the African Foundation of giving back to the community in a form of contributing to improving healthcare services by ensuring that the community members continue to receive these services in a dignified and favourable environment.

“We recently observed the World Diabetes Day on November 14. Please prioritise your lives; consider visiting our health facility and test for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure for early diagnosis and treatment. Knowing your health status and choosing a healthy lifestyle is a wise move for everyone’s well-being. Managing diabetes involves a multifaceted approach encompassing lifestyle changes, medication and regular health checks. Lifestyle changes means adopting a healthy diet and paying attention to how food affects blood sugar levels, engaging in regular exercise to promote weight loss and maintaining normal glucose levels,” she said.

The facility provides various services to the community, including management of minor ailments, providing initiative HIV counselling and testing, management of chronic conditions, comprehensive care management and treatment of HIV/Aids, youth-friendly services, integrated management of childhood illnesses, cervical cancer screening, counselling on termination of pregnancy and many more.
