Mpumalanga MEC: State of healthcare facilities needs to change

MEC Sasekani Manzini is meeting managers from various healthcare facilities.

The Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, said the current delivery of primary healthcare services in the province needs to change. This was during meetings held with health managers of several clinics, hospitals and districts in Gert Sibande and Nkangala on Thursday and Friday.

Manzini said 2023 is the year of excellence in delivering primary healthcare services.

“We want to see change in the province; systems are already in place, managers must make use of them.”

According to Manzini, improved healthcare services result in improved patient outcomes.

Addressing the meeting at Ella de Bruyn Hall in Ermelo in the Gert Sibande District on Thursday, she said, “Patients must be satisfied with the quality of service they receive. Implement booking systems in facilities to avoid long queues. Attend to complaints promptly and with respect. Operational managers and chief executive officers must be hands-on in monitoring the smooth operation of their facilities. They must organise open days and attend community meetings to understand the views of the public.”

At the Nkangala District offices, Manzini said, “This year we expect nothing but the best from everyone. I want change in our facilities, acceptable standards in the provision of healthcare services. I expect to receive complimentary calls, not complaints from the facilities you manage.”

Last year the department held the same programmes in the Ehlanzeni area.
