Mpumalanga Department of Social Development meets NPOs and shares funding info

This event is the Department of Social Development’s way of sharing information with the various NPOs and networking with them.

As a way to meet local non-profit organisation (NPO) role players, the Mpumalanga Department of Social Development held an event on Wednesday January 25.

Centie Ngobane, the department’s spokesperson, said this was done so that they could touch base with the NPOs in order to check whether the department and funded NPOs are on the same par.

“The meeting was attended by NPO managers and board chairpersons. Another reason is to strengthen the relationship with organisations, and to share information and experiences. This is information such as funding, to show transparency in funding allocations to these organisations in the subdistricts.

“This includes non-compliance of NPOs, which will lead to the deregistering of those ones that are not complying with the NPO Act 71 of 1997.”
Ngobane said the department is expected to provide information on funding so that citizens will know and have insight about its financial status.

“It has also been observed that some of these organisations submit their claims very late and with signatures of board members who had long since left.”
