Easy ice-cream stick crafts you can make with your child

Not only will your little one love making their own crafts from ice-cream sticks but they will also love spending fun time with mom or dad.

Are you wondering what you and your child can make with ice-cream sticks? The options are endless! We love a good craft that doubles as a teaching exercise and many of these ice-cream stick crafts create games that will teach your toddlers and pre-schoolers so many things. Here’s how to make them:

Chicks on a stick

You will need

  • Ice-cream sticks
  • Glue
  • Paints and brushes
  • Felt
  • Scissors
  • Feathers
  • Googly eyes

Method

  1. Place about six sticks in a row.
  2. Snap a stick in half and glue the two halves to the back of the six sticks to secure them.
  3. Paint all the sticks yellow.
  4. Cut wings, a beak, and feet from felt and glue them in place.
  5. Glue one feather to the head and your baby chick is born!

Go cold turkey

You will need: 

  • Ice-cream sticks
  • Glue
  • Pencil
  • Paint
  • Feathers
  • Plastic eyes
  • Cardboard

Method

  1. Place four sticks in a row.
  2. Snap one stick in half and glue the two halves to the back of the four sticks to secure them.
  3. Using a small bottle, trace a circle for the head.
  4. Draw the rest of the turkey’s body.
  5. Paint the shape.
  6. Glue on three pieces of a stick for feet and paint them. Glue on the eyes and cardboard beak.

Rockets and stardust

You will need: 

  • Ice-cream sticks
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Scrapbooking paper
  • Pencil
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Glitter (optional)

Method

  1. Place about four sticks in a row, snap one stick in half and glue the two halves to the back of the four sticks to secure them. Paint the sticks any colour and sprinkle them with glitter while the paint is still wet.
  2. Using scrapbooking paper, trace a circle using a small glass and a pencil.
  3. Cut out the circle and trim the bottom in a zigzag to create flames.
  4. Cut out a triangle and glue the flames and rocket tip in place.
