Parents band togetherto build a footbridge in Msholozi

The parents were worried seeing kids jumping dangerously over the stream or competing with vehicles on the main road while walking to school.

Tired of watching children endangering their lives while jumping across a stream, parents in Msholozi constructed a footbridge to help learners access their school easily.

Men and women from Section A braved the scorching sun to carry treated timber logs, donated by a local businessman, to build the bridge recent.

Nelsiwe Mokgale, a resident, said they were worried seeing kids jumping dangerously over the stream or competing with vehicles on the main road while walking to school.
“As mothers we were worried for the children’s safety. When they jump across the stream it is unsafe. They can fall into the stream and hurt themselves or even drown.

“We were also worried about their safety when they use the main road during peak hours,” said Mokgale. She added that they had engaged members of the ward committee and a number of parents who supported the idea to make a footbridge for their children.

Some of them donated logs, planks, cement, nails and other materials.
“Having successfully built this bridge today is a huge relief, knowing that education is a societal issue and raising kids needs the whole village.
“We are happy to have contributed our skills and powers in making a way for the future leaders of our country,” added Garstar Lekhuleni, also a resident.
Wozawoza Motsa, a ward committee member, applauded the parents for their work well done.
