VIDEO: Using social media ‘could lead to depression within six months’

Time spent on social media can lead to depression. Watch the video below for more:

Study shows that people who use social media for more than 5 hours a day are more likely to fall into depression compared to those who are online for about 120 minutes a day. Depression caused by social media can take only 6 months to occur.

The use of social media causes comparison amongst people and also takes away their time to work and better themselves. Social media usage, especially amongst young people has created a psychological barrier between their reality and their online lives. Who they portray themselves to be online is not their genuine self. The constant need to keep up with this facade drives them into depression, as it is sometimes unsustainable and unrealistic.

Research shows that the depression that is triggered by social media is mostly experienced by young people, because they spend most of their time on social media platforms.
